CLIVE Palmer says movie-goers might catch a glimpse of him reclining in a deckchair in a new film set aboard the Titanic II.
The mining magnate says he’s tempted to make a cameo appearance in a movie to be filmed aboard his new ocean liner.
He says Hollywood actors have expressed interest in the romantic drama he’s commissioned.
The film will be set aboard the ship’s 2016 journey from Shanghai, where the Titanic II is being built, to Southampton.
The premiere will coincide with the ship’s maiden commercial voyage from Southampton to New York in 2017.
A script is already in the works.
“It will be a love story,” he told AAP.
“We have a lot of actors from Hollywood, China and Europe who want to star in roles.
“I could be (seen) in a deckchair having a drink.”
Mr Palmer, who’s not known for his modesty, is predicting big things for his movie saying it will be “a lot better” than James Cameron’s 1997 hit starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.
That film remains the second-highest grossing film of all time behind Avatar, another Cameron movie.
Palmer Pictures – a firm launched by his father in the 1920s when he appeared in silent movies – has been “reinvigorated” to produce the film, Mr Palmer said.
He announced the news in a tweet saying: “Due to worldwide interest in @titanic_ii I’ve registered ‘Palmer Pictures’. Will look at making a movie about its maiden voyage #titanic.”
Mr Palmer will be hoping that neither the new ship nor the movie disappears without trace.
