Orlando Bloom has spoken out for the first time about his split from model Miranda Kerr.
Spotted outside his apartment in New York City, Bloom said the couple were not friends: “We’re family.”
Queried as to why they broke up, Bloom shook his head: “Life is a mystery, you know. It doesn’t always work out the way you want, but it’s all good.”

Celebrity magazines and fans worldwide were shedding tears for the latest glamour couple to walk the runway to divorce.
Their break up was confirmed in a joint statement issued on E! News overnight in which it was announced that after six years together, the Bloom-Kerrs had “recently decided to formalise their separation”.
“Despite this being the end of their marriage, they love, support and respect each other as both parents of their son and as family,” the statement read.
Cosmopolitan UK, which had only recently been granted an exclusive interview with Kerr, was “sobbing” over the announcement that the couple has split after three years of marriage while speculating about the reasons for the marriage breakdown.
Whatever the cause, rumours of trouble began swirling in late 2012 after the former Victoria’s Secret model was spotted not wearing her wedding ring. The gorgeous couple was rumoured to have decided to take a break and live apart. Kerr and Bloom have a boy, Flynn, aged 2.
The British actor’s mother stepped in to declare, “everything is fine” and “they are very happy”. But the once inseparable couple was spending long periods apart, with Bloom filming The Hobbit in New Zealand, and Kerr flitting between New York and Australia.
On Kerr’s twitter site, the former Victoria secret model recently posted photographs of Flynn, signed ‘My Little Love’. She sent her love and prayers to those affected by the Sydney fires. To love and be loved was one of the greatest gifts in the world, she wrote only recently. Bloom is conspicuously absent from her public twitter thoughts.
The 36-year-old British actor and the 30-year-old model from Gunnedah began dating in 2007. They were married in July 2010 after announcing their engagement the month prior.
Their last public appearance was at the premiere of Romeo and Juliet on Broadway on September 19, which according to their joint statement, seems to have been made when the couple was informally separated.
Bloom’s Romeo plays alongside Condola Rashad’s Juliet. In searching for clues, the gossip magazines have highlighted a recent interview Bloom gave in which he raved about kissing his Juliet. “We sometimes get applause because it just goes on.”
For her part, Kerr has been publicly rapturous of Bloom’s performance: “When I saw Orlando on Broadway in Romeo and Juliet, I was blown away,” Kerr said in the November issue of Cosmopolitan. “For someone to be able to learn all that and hold the energy to do it every day, six days a week—I have so much respect for him. We don’t run lines though. We keep that very separate. That would be like me asking him to teach me how to catwalk.”
