EMMA ALBERICI, PRESENTER: One person is dead and more than 200 people have fallen ill in a food poisoning outbreak linked to Melbourne Cup functions in Brisbane.
The death of a 77-year-old woman has been connected to the salmonella outbreak and others have been hospitalised.
SUSAN VLACK, QUEENSLAND HEALTH: There’s not too many people who’ve been very sick. We’ve had seven people we’ve identified as being hospitalised for this problem or in association with this problem, and probably about two of those are reasonably sick.
EMMA ALBERICI: Authorities believe 700 people may have been exposed. All attended Melbourne Cup functions that were catered by the one company. It has since stopped operating.
