Kanye West has announced the dates for his 2014 Australian tour. Touring his Yeezus album – one of the standout records of 2013 – Kanye will hit Australia in May. Tickets go on sale this Monday, February 24.
Kanye last toured Australia with the 2012 Big Day Out, playing headline sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne. “Generous in length and packed with hits, what this show lacked in spontaneity it made up for in sheer spectacle,” our sister site FasterLouder said of the Sydney sideshow. “While his all-star collaborators may have been absent, you wouldn’t say they were missed. Some performers get swallowed up by a venue this big, its lack of intimacy working against them. But Kanye West seems to thrive in such a setting and tonight was no exception.”
This may be a Yeezus tour but 2014 also marks the 10th anniversary of Kanye’s debut, The College Dropout, and his recent setlists prove that the man knows how important that is. At his show in Pennsylvania on Thursday night, Kanye played a bunch of tracks from that debut album ( Jesus Walks, Through the Wire, All Falls Down, Get ‘Em High, The New Workout Plan, Spaceship ) and tracks from all six of his albums plus cuts from his collaboration with Jay Z Watch the Throne and 2012’s Cruel Summer compilation.
