Blame to go around as Rio shuts Gove – The Australian
RIO Tinto’s closure of alumina operations at its Gove operation is a crushing blow to the mainly indigenous town of Nhulunbuy, 1000km east of Darwin. Naturally enough, there will be a lot of anger and finger-pointing as the blame game begins.
Blame the company and blame government. But most of all, blame China for the long-term change it has wrought in the global industry, change that has forever changed the economics of the Western world aluminium industry for the worse.
